The Budget 2009

Hi Everyone :-) The Budget has been upsetting alot of people this week  and the Fiscal Experts are saying that the figures do not stack up, and householders will be paying out an additional £1.4k per year to pay for the budget's shortcomings. It's all a bit worrying that there is such a lack of faith in the budget since clearly this country along with others right now needs a big helping hand. Wired 4 Zound ?

Last Thursday saw the denouement of the Wire’s first series 1 on BBC2. In case you been on Mars, the Wire is basically a cop show, but then so much more: The fact that it took the BBC five years to acquire & the BBC remains incapable of matching the Wire, is a pertinent wake up call, acutely illustrating how Government involvement is too often woefully deficient in terms of delivery. The Wire is indeed perhaps the ultimate cop show but I want to call attention to its commentary on why contemporary democratic Government often goes awry.

Charismatic Chairs and Leaders

Charisma

:-) This week with papers so thin, or the customary gloom and doom, I wanted to pose a conjecture about what it means to be a charismatic leader in the voluntary and community sector. I certainly have met many people like this, both in the public sector, voluntary and community sector, private sector and just out in the community. The ones from the voluntary and community sector are usually doing better than the less

Good Funding Practices

Hi!! This month has kicked off with a good article appearing in Society Guardian (1.4.09) on effective funding practices. It would appear that these are few and far between in the not for profit sector. One interesting point raised is that Funders shape grant criteria to suit their own needs and practices, and this places restrictions on organisations. :-)

Sessional Workers

One of my personal experiences is that of the inflexible nature and restricted scope of Project Funding, where grants do not pay salaries but sessional human resources. This has a major impact since sessional workers are hard
